Meet Brianna

Brianna Lang
Located in Michigan

Hi I’m Bri!

Throughout my entire life, I’ve spent more time hanging out with my dogs rather than making friends. The dog obsession started essentially from birth. Once I got old enough to read and write, I would ask for Dog Breed Encyclopedias and Breed specific books so I could research as much information as I could. I loved to draw my favorite breeds and write important breed facts next to them. Once I discovered Animal Planet, I began to dive deeper studying dog behaviors. At the time, I had a female Belgian Tervuren that got to be my test subject (thank you for being a saint to little me, Star). I had her for 17.5 years. After losing her in my 20s, I knew I couldn’t have another Belgian because I would compare it too much to her.

One of my favorite breeds to draw and study was the Beauceron. It was hard finding information about the breed since Google was in its infancy and there wasn’t much information in books.

In 2009 I finally joined Facebook , started joining whatever Beauce groups I could find, and befriended Robyn, whom also had a Tervuren mix and wanted a Beauceron. After Robyn got Nyko, I distinctively remember a post on Facebook asking who would be perfect for the breed that doesn’t own one yet, … Robyn tagged me.

Dog distribution system did what it does and put a few bully mixes into my life before I was able to purchase another purebred. These dogs got me into dog sports, as I was trying to find ways to expend my dogs’ energy. Being in the professional pet industry my entire life, I was offered amazing opportunities to dip my feet into numerous different sports, learn extensively about diets, study dog behaviors, dabble in training, get experience in emergency veterinary services, learn how to handle emergencies and first aid, and become a career professional dog groomer.

Finally, in 2023, mutual acquaintance told me that Robyn had the perfect dog available for me. I resisted for as long as I could. I remembered the post Robyn tagged me in many years ago, and said that if I got a Beauceron, it would be from Robyn. I drove to Ohio to finally meet Erika in person, whom had Seven. I obviously took Seven home. She’s the best girl and is incredibly difficult to not fall in love with. Shortly after, Robyn imported the panic puppies and asked me to give one of the puppies some experiences around my farm. Once Volatile (Tilly) showed up here, I texted Robyn and asked “what if I don’t ever want to give her back”, …. Surprise, Tilly’s never leaving. A few short months later, Vendetta found her way here, where she schmoozes her way into every single person’s heart that meets her.

I’d like to say that I specialize in finding what activity each individual dog needs to thrive, and I help build them in that venue to help them meet their full potentials.

Looking Forward to the Future

Vuitton got her nickname “Button” when a voicemail transcribed her name as Button instead of Vuitton when we received a call to say that she had multiple cysts on her lungs and was likely terminal. We were at the National Specialty at Purina Farms, helping to run the event while our baby puppy was potentially dying.

Not that she knew it. While leaking air into her chest cavity, she earned her TKN. She’d just offer behaviors in exam room when we’d go visit in the evenings in the cutest little sweater the vet staff gave her.

We drove through the night to SC after a week of hospitalization to a vet willing to perform surgery to remove most the cysts to, hopefully, ensure she was only immunocompromised, not leaking air anymore. This included stopping on the side of the road and pulling air out of her TWO chest tubes while stuck in traffic and hoping against all odds that it was the right thing to do to travel across the country to a different vet.

When we stopped, she was running around like nothing was wrong.

It wasn’t until we went to her two week check up post-surgery that the surgeon disclosed it was the worst case she had ever seen. She survived with exactly 1.5 lungs – it was against quality of life to take more and, against all odds, that was exactly what was needed to ensure all were removed.

Her prognosis was a full recovery.

We bubble wrapped her. For months, she barely left property. We didn’t go to shows, we didn’t socialize, we just rejoiced that she was alive and constantly monitored her breathing.

Then it was time to let her out of the bubble. She learned to be a show dog with Jin, and did so with style. She traveled through her teenager phase with the main character energy only Button could bring. She built her fan club and proved to us that it was a-okay to let her out of the bubble.

Then we stepped into an arena with stock. She immediately showed true partnership and workmanship. She works the flock together with her handler, even when she’s still trying to figure out the goals.

She has a hell of a future ahead of her. It may include herding ribbons. It may include puppies. It may include a myriad of things, but it’s definitely going to include Button making sure everyone knows she’s the main character.

Pedigree

Vuitton comes from a fantastic combination of working, show, and farm dogs (usually all mixed together). Nikan, her sire, has been a favorite for a while – showcasing true versatility in the show, bitesports, and other sporting venues while being the best pet on his family’s couch. Ilvie, her dam, is always a joy in the home – keeping the pack in order.

With Tyros, Harwey, Bataille, and Hellen, we felt her pedigree was packed with interest and potential. We are looking forward to determining how best to utilize her diversity and also line breeding opportunities.

Preliminary Hips: Good

Looking Forward to the Future

We waited many years for Valentine to be born and head to the US. His dam, Uzelle, was such a promising puppy, we asked to be placed on her waitlist the day we realized she was going home to Magali. Then when she chose Valentine for our home, we couldn’t have been more thrilled! His structure and pedigree made him an easy choice to join our pack.

With a diverse pedigree focused on both sport and conformation, we were curious to see what this boy would want to do. He has very clearly said that he loves the show ring, especially the hot dogs and cheese that come along with it. The rest of the “work” will hopefully come with time and brain cells.

Our Journey

Valentine has been growing up slow and steady in the Salley household, dabbling in the show ring. He’s a joy to live with – always up for a cuddle on the couch or a clumsy game of fetch in the yard. He’s a quick learner, as long as there’s quail eggs involved.

As we look towards the future, we hope to spend some time in the show ring in 2026, showing just how wonderfully he’s growing up.

His Early Days

Squish comes from some strong, beautiful versatile dogs such as Morse, Midas, Turbo, F’Karma, and Seneque. We had a hard time choosing a boy from the pack of troublemakers, but then we saw a video of a puppy run headfirst into a fence, bounce off, then pop back up happily to bound off to the next adventure. When doing structural evaluations, he also rose to the top of the pack.

Early on, Squish headed to Colorado with Dakotah where he’s experienced it all from weight pull to barn hunt to conformation and more. He’s a sponge – always figuring out the game with the enthusiasm and clumsiness only a growing boy can bring to the table. His temperament is a testament to his pedigree – a versatile farm dog that tries to be the center of attention.

He has finished his first round of health testing and started what’s sure to be a long journey in dog sports by titling in rally, coursing, barn hunt, and trick dog venues as well as a number of temperament evaluations. We look forward to continuing to support their journey as Squish explores his place within our breeding program.

Volatile

Milou
Date of Birth April 1st, 2024 (2 years old)
(P’Duka des Vaux Rouges x Cita du Pré du Baron)
Bred By F.J. Kappert

Her Early Days

Tilly comes from some strong, beautiful versatile dogs such as Morse, Midas, Turbo, F’Karma, and Seneque. When looking at the litter, her forward attitude and confident stance were immediate draws. She sauntered off the plane with the exact attitude we predicted and hasn’t looked back.

She journeyed to join Brianna’s pack and they have been inseparable since. From days on the farm to learning to support her handler’s needs, she’s been the missing puzzle piece. We look forward to their future together as they continue to dabble across a variety of interests including conformation, herding, rally, and more.

What it’s like living with Tilly, written by Brianna:

In my opinion, Tilly is the epitome of a Beauceron. She’s happy, bubbly, funny, go lucky, absolute goofball of a dog around her people ONLY. She knows she’s not allowed to jump on her mom, so instead she hops up and down in front of her mom and wiggles non stop until she gets attention. In public, Tilly automatically shifts into complete serious work mode. She’s doing a job and she needs to complete that job, no time for funny business. She loves to learn, but absolutely hates repetition with a passion during training sessions. She’s a show her once, and she’s got it for life, kind of dog when teaching her new things. Her impulse control is also impeccable for her age, which will come in handy as we continue to explore a promising herding career. Those that meet Tilly love her sweet, unproblematic personality.

Vendetta

AKC Major Ptd Vendetta Strong Willed Sun
Date of Birth March 2nd, 2024 (2 years old)
(LVA JCH Baltik Gardemarine Cerberus x Beloved Beast Vie Des Favoris)
Bred By Tetiana Zhdaskova

Looking Forward to the Future

Vendetta joined the BDV family with a bang! She came over at 4 months old and immediately joined the chaos of dog shows and puppy parties without a stumble. She’s a fun puppy – endless amounts of handler engagement and enthusiasm. Velcro doesn’t even begin to describe her love of being with her people. Even when she’s all legs, she moves like a dream, and holds herself with confidence.

We can’t wait to find her “perfect” job! Currently, she’s hanging out with Brianna in Michigan, learning the farm dog ways alongside Tilly and Seven.

Our Journey

She debuted in conformation at the 2024 National Specialty the day she turned 6 months old. She started off with a bang by taking a major against some lovely competition. Since then, she’s picked up most of her remaining points and is chasing her last major, including some time on the road with friends to help decide her path forward within the breed.

Uka

AKC Major Ptd Ua Uka Dozo du Mont des Croisettes
Date of Birth June 27th, 2023 (3 years old)
(CH Q’Rouny l’Ami de la Campagne x Ozo la Feinte du Mont des Croisettes)
Bred By Agathe Leurs
Owned By Yvette Lear of Moon’s End

Enjoying our time

When Yvette found out she was going to have an extended deployment abroad, we were happy to welcome Tamaki into our home and program. When Uka also needed to spend some time on a comfortable couch, working towards goals for Moon’s End, it made sense for her to come join our pack as well. She has had quite the lifestyle change from the rustic countryside in France where she lived most of her first year, to the ever evolving lifestyles within the BDV sphere. She’s learned to play show dog with the Burrells, figured out manners and foundations with Erika, and explored the homestead life with the Salleys. Everywhere she goes, she brings joy with her smiles and slapping paws.

Our Journey

She has had success in the show ring as a more mature bitch, still tracking a final major to finish out her AKC Championship. She is beginning to explore rally – her enthusiasm makes the process fun, but often requires creativity. With some loose introductions to ducks, she shows kindness and instinct to help move them through yards. We are looking forward to exploring herding further soon.

We are excited to see what the coming year brings as we watch her blossom.

Health Testing

  • Hips – Good – 27 months
  • Elbows – Normal – 27 months
  • Echo – Normal – 27 months
  • Eyes – Normal w/ BO – 27 months
  • CHIC – 220038

Looking Forward to the Future

Ugie joins the BDV family from the Czech Republic. He’s an absolute joy to live with, even with the amount of energy and engagement he demands. He wants to work, cuddle, and eat with the same zest most dogs reserve for a Starbucks Pup Cup. Like most baby beaucerons, he’s slow to develop focus, but we see excellent building blocks for this incredible boy!

Our Goals

Ugie’s pedigree tells us that the sky is the limit! He comes from lines that are well equipped to tackle bite sports as easily as herding as easily as the show ring. While he’s growing his big boy brain, we’re focused on conformation – just a few points away from his Championship after 4 majors in just a few weekends out.

When tested on stock, he showed great instinct. After a year off, focusing on obedience and rally, he was re-introduced with great success. After a few training sessions on sheep, he successfully completed his Pre-Trial Test owner handled. He’s a powerful, kind dog with energy that begs to work long days. We are excited to see his herding journey continue.

In between visits to the farm, he helps around the Salley homestead, hauling the cart and tending the poultry. He’s also exploring his career in scentwork, learning new and different ways of partnership.

As with all of our boys, we will continue to watch them mature until they’ve repeated a second round of health testing around 5 years old. We strongly believe Ugie will continue to mature into a dog with a bright future as a breeding prospect within our program and potentially others interested in producing strong, bold, kind workers.

Looking Forward to the Future

Nacho is owned and loved by the Collazo family in Michigan. She enjoys her role as Perfect Princess for game nights, and Feral Mud Monster on the hiking trails. She enjoys playing with her Malinois brother, Taco, and trying to cuddle the pug, Pickle. She makes friends easily with her goofy smile she inherited from her sire, Popeye.

Our Journey and Goals

Nacho is a very versatile young dog, just as easily able to tackle the conformation ring as a scentwork puzzle. As a gangly teenager, she achieved her championship under the expert handling of the Burrell family. Then she strode into the 2024 Journee final ring to win Best Female in Journee! While she could be a competitive special as a mature adult, she is unlikely to spend much time in the conformation ring anymore, focusing instead on her performance and working goals.

She shows promise in obedience, herding, and scentwork, and we hope to explore those venues as she matures.

Looking Forward to the Future

When your breeder tells you he has the perfect match for you after he’s already matched you beautifully before, you listen. When Mico told us that this little man was going to be everything we dreamed of, even with already having Reaver in the program, we listened. The Salleys fell in love with him the moment they picked him up, but he was quickly snatched up by Morgan – one of the newer members of our collaboration. He spends time with both families between Texas and Ohio.

After a short evaluation period, he really embodies everything we love about Reaver, Natchez, and N’Blue. He shows beautiful conformation potential as well as a calm, steady engagement that promises a wonderful sport career as well.

Our Goals

The sky’s the limit with Terror. Currently, his focus is in exploring the world of dog sports with his owner, Morgan. They have dabbled in rally, obedience, disc, coursing, barn hunt, and conformation. He has shown off his happy demeanor and willingness to please in every venue.

As a young pup, he finished his UKC Championship including group placements, as well as snagging his first AKC Major. We expect him to continue to shine in the conformation ring as he matures, just as his brother, Reaver, has.

As he grows, we will focus on him enjoying being a puppy and laying strong, versatile foundations for him to blossom into an incredible dog.

Enjoy some pictures of the cute little man!
